Furry Tails: Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month

It's kitten season.

It's a time when animal shelters, locally and all across the country, overflow with stray kittens desperately in need of good homes.

Here in Pittsburgh, shelters like the Animal Rescue League and Western Pa. Humane Society do their part to care for the cats. Taking them in, finding them foster homes, working to spay and neuter them.

But the numbers can just be overwhelming.

That's why Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month is so important.

According to statistics from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, approximately 3.4 million cats are waiting to be adopted at shelters all across the United States. Kitten season only adds to those numbers.

Pet Supplies Plus stores are also doing their part this month to raise awareness about cat adoption. This weekend, June 18 and 19, stores all across the country are hosting in-store adoption events.

Pet Supplies Plus CEO Chris Rowland says: "Thirty-seven percent of all households in the United States have a cat, and Pet Supplies Plus understands our cat-loving neighbors and their passion for providing forever homes to deserving pets. Our team members are committed to this very same effort. We are dedicating the entire month of June to connecting our cat-loving neighbors with adoptable cats and providing their pets with a month long celebration that's just for them."

If you stop into Pet Supplies Plus stores this Cat Adoption Weekend, you'll have a chance to meet some of the many cats in need of good homes.

And if you decided to adopt, you'll receive a New Cat Checklist with a coupon to stock up for your new furry friend.

Some stores are also doing giveaways. You're urged to contact your nearest store to find out all of their events!

In addition to the adoption events, Pet Supplies Plus stores are also doing Feline Flash Sales all month long. Watch for them on Fridays, on social media, and next weekend on June 24-26.
