Community Comes Together To Improve Moore Park

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It was all hands on deck at Moore Park in Brookline over the weekend. Volunteers showed up, ready to work.

"I just think this shows how dedicated the community is to their public assets and how dedicated they are to the park," said City Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak.

Rudiak represents District 4. She said the entire project started after her office received complaints from citizens concerned about the condition of the park.

Many were worried about not only the appearance, but the safety of the park.

"This is not unusual in the City of Pittsburgh, the Department of Public Works receives about 30 applications for volunteer projects in parks a month," she said.

Crews with the Department of Public Works worked along side volunteers to tackle some of the bigger projects.

"They are patching concrete, they're replacing wood in the bleachers, they're cleaning out foliage and vines," Rudiak explained

Volunteers stuck mostly to painting and other smaller projects. Rudiak said she's just happy there was such an overwhelming response from neighbors.

"We actually had to go out and go to the store and get about 20 more brushes because so many people showed up," she said.

Rudiak said she will be working with the mayor's office to secure more funding for other improvement projects in the park.
