One-Armed Man To Stand Trial In Samurai Sword Attack On Brother-In-Law

MONESSEN (KDKA) – A man accused of striking his brother-in-law with a samurai sword in a dispute over marijuana will stand trial.

Todd Clark, 51, waived his preliminary hearing in court Friday morning.

Clark, who lost his left arm after a stroke, is facing a list of charges including, attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

According to police, the incident happened at the home of Clark's sister and brother-in-law back on June 16.

Clark allegedly tried to hit his sister with a cane when she asked him to refrain from smoking marijuana in the house.

At that point, Bill Garey jumped into action.

"He went to hit her on the back of her head with his cane. I wasn't going to stand there and let him hit my wife," Garey said.

According to the affidavit, Clark retrieved a samurai sword from behind his bed and told Garey, "Bring it on [expletive]."

Clark allegedly struck Garey in the face with the sword. Bleeding profusely, he was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where he required several stitches.

Garey said Friday that he hopes this incident will help Clark get help.

"He's the one that's gotta deal with it, whatever he's gotta deal with, all we ask is for the mental health," Garey said. "He won't be welcome back, but I'm sure they'll take care of him and give him the mental health he needs."
