PWSA Working To Correct Billing Problem With Electronic Meters

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- For more than a year, some customers of the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority have been slapped with some crazy bills -- thousands and thousands of dollars for water usage of $100 or less.

PWSA has blamed this on a new system of electronic meters that did not agree with the Authority's billing system -- something acting director David Donahoe calls a failed marriage.

Donahoe and the mayor are happy report the system is now working with relatively few glitches -- though PWSA must go through a process of collecting from the under-billed and refunding those who were over-charged.

"I do not want to put up the sign 'mission accomplished' because it is not over yet. We are continuing to work," Donahoe said.

The other big ongoing concern is lead in the water and the Authority has been offering testing free of charge.
