Brookline Pool Finally Opens After Delay Due To Failed Inspection

BROOKLINE (KDKA) -- Children in Brookline no longer have to run under the water spray to get wet on hot days.

After a nearly one month delay, the Moore Pool finally opened for the summer.

Samuel Dodds lives across the street.

"I think for the community, this is a pool that used by a lot of people who live around here. I think everybody is relieved to see it open, no we were kind of nervous as to if it was going to open at all this summer," he said.

The pool didn't open over the Memorial Day Weekend because it failed inspection due to a faulty electrical service. The city performed repairs, the system passed inspection, and is now running.

Neighbors praise councilwoman Natalia Rudiak for taking action.

"She wasn't going to have it, she's done a lot of good in brookline she's got a lot of love for the community and it really shows," said parent Kristie Dodds.

"I think it's great the kids have been out of school for awhile they're really looking to get together with their friends and this provides and opportunity for them to get together in the community and have fun in a safe place," said parent Kristy Rzepecki.

Parents no longer have to drive to suburban pools and pay more than three dollars per child in the city.

Moore Pool in Brookline is not the only city swimming pool with happy, wet faces. Ammons Pool in the Hill District reopened after being closed all last summer due to a broken water filtration system.

Meanwhile councilwoman Rudiak has introduced a resolution requiring the city to inspect pools twice a year and make necessary repairs well before pools open in the the summer.
