Boy, 4, Recovering After Being Pulled From Scott Twp. Pool

SCOTT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A 4-year-old child is recovering today after being rescued from the community pool in Scott Township Wednesday evening.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. at the community pool facility on Lindsay Road.

20-year-old Ross Manganaro is an emergency medicine student at Pitt. His major certainly paid off at the Scott Township Pool when four-year-old Taveon was found face-down in the water.

"I heard someone say 'oh God he is blue'. I started doing chest compressions and on about the 8th one he coughed up and his eyes opened," Manganaro said.

Taveon was transported by ambulance to Children's Hospital, his mother by his side.

"She said the child is doing amazing. He was actually eating then I was talking to her and she says he is fine," said Sgt. Jeff Skees with Scott Twp. Police.

According to the lifeguards, the pool was crowded, with about 700 people in it when Taveon was found.

Parents say they are more alert now.

"I think I will just be watching, less texting while the kids are in the pool and keep an eye on both of them," said Lesley Kunkel.

"I am just keeping them close, this hits home, just how bad it can be and how important they are," said Karen McCord.
