Pirates' Starling Marte To Replace Injured Mets Player On All-Star Team
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte may have lost the All-Star Game fan final vote, but he'll be joining the National League All-Star team anyway.
Major League Baseball announced Friday that 27-year-old Marte will be replacing the New York Mets' Yoenis Cespedes on the National League All-Star team. CBS Sports reports that Cespedes left a game Friday night with a right quad strain.
Marte was one of the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Final Vote participants, but came in second, losing to Giants first baseman Brandon Belt.

Marte will be joining Pirates pitcher Mark Melancon, who was selected to the All-Star Team for the third time in four seasons with the Pirates.
The All-Star Game takes place Tuesday night in San Diego.
