More Than 20 Vehicles Vandalized In Verona

VERONA (KDKA) -- People who live along Center Avenue, First and Second Avenue in Verona, say they woke up Monday morning to police knocking at their door, letting them know that cars on their streets had been vandalized.

In each case, it was the same. The windows had been smashed out.

"This was all smashed. And a couple of cars down the street, you could see where they didn't break it, and it looked like a hard object," Guy Oliver said.

He told KDKA he didn't know what to expect when Verona Police knocked at his door, inquiring about his SUV. The front driver side window had been smashed out.

"It was all random. They crossed the street back and forth some one get two windows knocked out, I was lucky, we only had one," he said.

Verona Police say more than 20 vehicles on streets around Verona Park were smashed. An officer on patrol noticed the broken glass in several different locations around 5 a.m.

"My son was out here smoking around 4:30 so it was after 4:30 and so he said he thought he heard a pop, but he didn't get up to look or anything," said neighbor Patti Tumminello.

Police don't have a suspect, nor an object that was used to break the windows. Officers say it may have been a spring-loaded window puncher, often used to break windows in emergency situations. Now Guy Oliver will have to use emergency funds to get his window repaired.

"I am mad. I wake up. He's supposed to put the air conditioner in my car. I guess I don't need air conditioning now," he said.

Police say they aren't aware of any surveillance video in the area. They're asking anyone who has information on the vandalism to give them a call.
