PennDOT Repairs Tie Up Traffic On Parkway East

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It was was the Noon Parkway East Blues -- traffic backed up, detoured and delayed. The Squirrel Hill Tunnel was shut down.

PennDOT said they had to close the tunnel to make emergency repairs. They noticed some loose brackets that were holding up pipes, and they didn't want pipe crashing down on cars.

You can only imagine the reaction on a hot summer day.

"I think its horrible. Everybody has places to go. We have things to do. Its hot outside. Everyone's air conditioner doesn't work, we don't want to be stuck in traffic. We need to get to where we are going," one woman said.

To make things worse, the traffic was detoured into Wilkinsburg and Regent Square, jamming up traffic there as well. Some complained, others tried to cope.

"It is what it is. You just got to sit through it and get through it," one man said.

"You learn to deal with it. Maneuver around it," another man said.
