Woman Shot During McKeesport Home Invasion

MCKEESPORT (KDKA) -- A man who was targeted by armed burglars says he watched as one of them shot his girlfriend in the face during a home invasion in McKeesport early Saturday morning.

Tom Kyne lived through one of the scariest moments of his life. He says around 2 a.m., intruders kicked his front door open and stormed into his house in the 1800-block of Union Avenue in McKeesport.

"Three black men came busting through my door with shirts and stuff tied around their face, holding guns, screaming about money," Kyne said.

Kyne says the gunman didn't waste time. He says one of them fired shots, grazing him in the leg. That's when his girlfriend, 32-year-old Joann McCall, came to his defense.

"She attacked him from behind," Kyne said. "He turned around and shoved her. And I don't know which one of the three shot her, but one of them shot her in the face."

All of his children and his mother were in the house at the time.

"They wanted money," Kyne said. "I don't have money. I got seven kids. I live on welfare … I begged them, 'Just take me outside. Don't harm my family.'"

The intruders eventually left the house. Joann McCall was taken to UPMC Presbyterian where she's listed in critical but stable condition with a bullet wound in her face.

Police ask anyone who was in the area and may have seen or heard anything suspicious to call the McKeesport Police or the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit at 412-473-1300. Callers can remain anonymous. Allegheny County police can also be reached via social media.
