Young Man Sentenced In 2014 Shooting Of Pregnant Teen, Unborn Baby's Death

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A young man accused of shooting a pregnant teen and killing her unborn baby appeared in court for sentencing Wednesday morning.

According to the District Attorney's Office, Eric Taylor, 17, was sentenced to 22 1/2 to 45 years in prison.

The incident began with a knock at the door in the middle of the night on Friendship Street in Duquesne back in May of 2014. DaRae Delgado, who was 15 at the time and was seven months pregnant, opened the door and was shot four times.

This past May, Taylor was found guilty of homicide of an unborn child, attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and firearms charges.

He was tried as an adult in the case.

Defense attorney Chris Conrad says the case was unusual several reasons.

"The victim knew the suspect her whole life, but wasn't able to identify him," Conrad said.

The ages of everyone involved was surprising to Conrad as well.

"Everyone involved in this case is in their mid-teens. Anyone who had anything to do with the case was only 14, 15 years old (in some cases.) That's very unusual," he said.

Conrad said he wasn't surprised by the Judge David Cashman's sentence.

"It could have been up to 80 years, but a lot of the (charges) would have merged," he said.

As for why Taylor never showed any remorse during the trial, "He isn't the one who did the shooting," Conrad said.
