Basketball Court Dedicated To Ambridge Player Killed In Crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Family and friends gathered on Thursday night to dedicate a new basketball court in honor of a local high school basketball player who was killed in a car crash earlier this year.

Brett Jula was active in sports throughout his life. In February, he was killed in a crash in Saint Louis - just days before the Ambridge boys basketball team was set to compete in the WPIAL playoffs.

Now, his memory lives on at Anthony Wayne Terrace in Baden, Beaver County. A new basketball court was dedicated in his honor.

There was a prayer service where Jula's parents, Mark and Susan, spoke. "They have all these people here… to honor him in this way, it's tremendous," said his father, Mark Jula. "Everyone who met him loved him. [He was] loving, kind, respectful, generous, helpful, courteous, he was a true gentleman," said his parents.

Jula's father, Mark, got emotional while he was addressing the crowd. "I thought this was going to be easy," he said. He also thanked the people who helped to renovate the court, and help with the dedication.

"I think he caused it to rain because I don't think he wanted… a big to do," said Mark Jula. "But he's in up heaven, smiling. I'm sure he's proud, probably shooting a three right now."
