Nearly 100 State Liquor Stores Opening On Sunday For First Time

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- If you like a good glass of wine or a beer, the game has changed for you in Pennsylvania.

"I think it's about time, we were just talking about this before we came in," said Brandon Helt.

There is a lot of talk about the sweeping new alcohol laws said to take effect Sunday. Many more state stores will be open on Sunday and holidays.

"I am very excited for the convenience of it," said Ion Simonides.

The alcohol reforms also allow restaurants and hotels with proper licenses to sell up to four bottles of wine per customer per transaction.

The new reforms allow you to purchase alcohol online, but there are regulations. You can only order 36 cases of wine per person, per year. Add to that the green light now for beer and wine sales in convenience stores.

"It is so strange but I've gotten used to it I have grown fond of my beer distributor I bet they're not happy about the new rules," said Kathleen Kelly.

"I do believe it is the beginning of the end It doesn't look good for us," said Jerry Irvin, owner of Boulevard Beer in Emsworth.

From his perspective, beer and wine in convenience stores and grocery stores is a slippery slope distributors will never be able to climb up.

"If they are able to sell six packs it will put small operations like us out of business," Irvin said.
