93.7 The Fan High School Football Preview 2016 Class 1A: Sto-Rox

Sto-Rox
Big Seven Conference

No team will benefit more from the re-classification of schools than Sto-Rox and no coach is happier that his team is moving down in class than Vikings third-year coach Jason Ruscitto.

That's because Sto-Rox made an error in calculations in the enrollment numbers it submitted to the PIAA ahead of the two-year reclassification of schools in 2014 and ended up having to play Class AA even though it is one of the smallest schools in the WPIAL and should be in Class A.

And the difference between the two classes is best illustrated by the plight of the Vikings over the last three years.

In 2013, one year ahead of being bumped up to Class AA, the Vikings were 12-1, Big Seven Conference champs and the WPIAL Class A runner up in 2013.

But the last two seasons in Class AA, they have had a very rocky road as they have gone 2-16 (back-to-back 1-8 seasons) and have been outscored by an average score of 43.8 – 15.4

Now that they are back in Class A where they belong, the Vikings should be able to get back to their winning ways and challenge again for the conference title as well as the WPIAL title.

The Vikings have 12 starters returning – six on each side of the ball – and will be built around three multi-positional, two-way seniors in Lavaughan Hawkins, Brady Doubt and Ray-mon Gee.

Ruscitto had coach the Vikings from 2004-09 and had plenty of success so the combination of the returning talent and the fact that they are moving down in class should add up to another successful season under his watch.
