93.7 The Fan High School Football Preview 2016 Class 2A: Washington

Washington
Century Conference

The Little Prexies haven't won the WPIAL title since 2001 but on the heels of last season, they are certainly feeling like this could be the year.

Washington was 10-1 last season, 9-0 in the Interstate Conference and advanced to the WPIAL quarterfinals and have a lot of pieces from that team back.

The strength of the team was the running game and there is another good stable of running backs for Mike Bosnic to build his offense on.

Washington also should feature another excellent offensive line and it is anchored by massive senior tackle Andrew Mercer (6-3, 290 pounds), who was an all-conference selection last year.

The defense will again be prophetic, well, at least it is built on two prophets, Isaiah and Isaiah, who return and will make the Little Prexies both fast and athletic on that side of the ball.

That is junior linebacker Isaiah Schoonmaker (6-1, 180 pounds), who is entering his third year as a starter, and senior cornerback Isaiah Robinson.

Schoonmaker had 64 tackles and three interceptions but he also scored four touchdowns on offense, so his versatility and big-play ability make him one of the most dangerous players in the WPIAL.

Washington should be the favorite to win the Century Conference and may even be good enough to raise the championship trophy at Heinz Field.
