Man, Woman Struck, Killed By Train In Pennsylvania

AMBRIDGE, Pa. (KDKA/AP) - Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a man and woman were struck and killed by a train while trying to cross the tracks.

Officials in Beaver County said the two, identified as 48-year-old Kolene McCoy-Graham and 49-year-old Scott Meckling, were hit by an Amtrak passenger train near the sewage treatment plant in Ambridge at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police chief James Mann said the two came from the Ohio River side of the tracks and tried to cross but went in front of the train and were struck.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Beaver County Times the pair were boyfriend and girlfriend. McCoy-Graham was from Aurora, Colorado and Meckling was from Ambridge.

"It was a horrific accident," Mann said. "The engineer saw them and he said as the train got closer they began to step up their pace."

The accident didn't happen at a crossing.
