'I'm Tired': Friends, Family Of Murdered Girl Speak Against Gun Violence

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- People who knew Daija McCall can't understand why anyone would harm the likable 17-year-old. She was walking near the corner of Mt. Vernon and Belmar Streets in Homewood Saturday afternoon when she was gunned down on the sidewalk.

"For a 17-year-old to get killed, she got gunned down it doesn't make any sense," said family member Dominique Bennet.

"Her smile lit up the room, she was nice at heart, she was so loving," Alanda Ousley said.

McCall was a sophomore at Carrick High School. Family and friends met at Westinghouse High, her former school, to talk about the murder. It's the latest shooting in a community being torn apart by gun violence.

"Everybody just needs to put these guns down, because everybody out here has babies," said Artiella Bennett. "You all hurt somebody else's mom, hurting somebody else's family."

"A lot of family has died through gun violence it's just ridiculous," Dominique Bennet said. "I'm tired of crying, I'm tired of funerals, I'm tired of wakes, I'm tired of putting people in holes, I'm tired of everything."

Police were notified about the gunfire by Shot Spotter technology which recorded up to eleven shots. Daija McCall died from a gunshot wound in the chest.

No one has been arrested.

"It just needs to stop it don't make no sense, for these babies out here cannot walk the streets and just enjoy themselves."

Police are looking for a gold Nissan and a red Jeep Patriot. Anyone with information should contact Pittsburgh Police.
