Plum School Board To Decide Fate Of District Superintendent, High School Principal

PLUM (KDKA) -- The Plum school board may be close to deciding the fate of the district's superintendent and high school principal.

Both were put on leave amid a sex abuse scandal at the high school. Next week, the board is also expected to hear the results of an independent investigation.

The school board is likely to put both Superintendent Timothy Glasspool and Principal Ryan Kociela back on the job after putting them on paid administrative leave last May. The board could vote on this as early as Tuesday night.

With students back in class for another school year, the Plum High School sex scandal still looms.

Superintendent Timothy Glasspool was highly criticized in a grand jury report for not doing enough about it. Principal Ryan Kociela was also taken to task. Both are on paid administrative leave while a private law firm investigates their role in the scandal.

A scandal that led to guilty pleas from former teachers Jason Cooper and Joseph Ruggieri for having sexual relationships with students. A third former teacher is awaiting trial.

Joe Tommarello, a former board member who resigned in protest over the scandal, says he expects the board will reinstate both the superintendent and the principal. Tommarello in fact says he expects a vote of 6-3 to put Glasspool and Kociela back on the job.

No school board members have confirmed whether the superintendent or the principal will get their jobs back.

KDKA has confirmed that the results of an investigation by a Philadelphia law firm into what the superintendent and the principal did or did not do about the sex scandal will be revealed to the board Tuesday.
