Deer Survives 40-Foot Fall From Bridge, Through Roof Of Municipal Garage

HOMEWOOD BOROUGH (KDKA/AP) -- A deer survived after falling about 40-feet from a bridge and through the roof of a building in Beaver County over the weekend.

An official from Beaver County says the six-point buck apparently jumped off the Homewood bridge that carries the Turnpike over Route 18 in the borough.

Council president Alan DeSanzo says he found the animal in the Homewood Municipal Garage Saturday morning.

He said the deer fell through plywood that was about eight inches thick, and that probably helped break its fall before it hit the concrete floor of the garage.

The deer had a few scratches but seemed okay.

Desanzo says he ran out of the garage and the deer eventually went through the open door and back into the woods.

He added there's a "pretty good sized hole" in the roof, and he hopes insurance will cover some of the cost - but he doesn't look forward to explaining the situation to the insurance company.
