1 Dead, Home Destroyed In Kilbuck Township Fire

KILBUCK TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – One person died in a fire in Kilbuck Township early Monday morning.

Ohio Township Police Chief Norbert Micklos said someone passing by noticed the home on Camp Horne Road on fire and called emergency crews.

As many as 100 firefighters from four different fire departments responded to the fire. Chief Micklos confirmed one person was killed in the fire.

"The house is destroyed and the body was inside the house," Chief Micklos said.

It's believed the fire started between 3-3:20 a.m. Monday. Part of Camp Horne road is closed for construction. The Emsworth fire chief says that's why he called in additional firefighters.

"Because we can't get [any] trucks in from that end, so I brought Ohio Township down from off the hill," Emsworth Fire Department Chief Jim Kohl said, "Because they are the closest next one in."

Another challenge for firefighters was a small bridge that leads to the home. Firefighters had to pull their hoses across the bridge. The trucks weren't allowed to cross the bridge due to weight restrictions.

Chief Kohl said the detour didn't affect response time.

The police chief says it looks like the family who lived at the home had plans to relocate.

"It looks like they were moving out is what it looks like," said Chief Micklos. "There was a U-Haul van parked. Fire department moved it out of the way. It was backed right up to the house. It looks like they were in the process of moving out."

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal's office and Allegheny County police are investigating the deadly fire.
