PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Western Pennsylvania is a hunting haven, but soon you won’t have to bag your own buck to feast on a venison sandwich.
Arby’s is taking their “We Have the Meats” slogan pretty seriously with their latest offering: a venison sandwich.
The new sandwich will be test marketed in only 17 locations in six states. New Castle has three of them. Test marketing of the sandwich will occur in the three days following Thanksgiving.
Arby’s customers at the three New Castle locations voiced their opinions.
“I personally love eating venison as much as I can. I think it’s a great idea,” said one customer.
“It’s common for people around here to eat venison, so I don’t see anything wrong with it,” another customer said.
But another made it clear the taste for deer meat is not universal.
“I’m not fond of venison, but I know other people in this area might be,” a customer said.
Even in Lawrence County, some have not yet tried it.
“I’ve had bear, but no venison,” one man said.
Customers shared their opinions on why New Castle would be selected as a national test market.
“There’s a good mix of population here,” a customer said. “Quite a few hunters and they may like it.”
“It’s probably one of the best areas, because if they can get it to sell here they can get it to sell anywhere, because everyone makes their own at home anyway,” another customer said.
“If it’s going to be tested, it should be someplace that people have an interest, and this is venison country. In my backyard, they eat all my hasta,” a customer said.
Though the price has not been revealed yet, it’s likely that each sandwich will cost a few… bucks.
The sandwich will also be available in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Tennessee and Georgia.
