Super Heroes Surprise Children's Hospital Patients

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - With Halloween less than a week away, kids are getting ready for one of the biggest nights of the year.

This morning, the patients at Children's Hospital did not have to go anywhere to have some fun.

Instead, the party came to them.

"We came in here with a little anxiety. Both of them have appointments here today," Rebecca Johnson said.

While waiting, four super heroes dropped in to wash the windows.

"I was just surprised. I'd heard of that happening in different places, but had never experienced it," Jake Robl said.

Four super heroes rigged their gear on the roof. In addition to their safety harnesses, they geared up in as Batman, Spiderman, Captain America and Superman.

"These kids go through a lot. This might just give them a smile for today -- you know what I mean? I like doing that, but it's hard on them just to be here. I see what goes on here," Edward Hetrick, of Allegheny Window Cleaning, said.

The challenge is keeping the costume on while staying safe nine stories up in the air. On top of that, the morning fog provided a distinct seasonal flavor.

"It's actually quite common here in Pittsburgh -- the fog. We start early in the morning. However, it is a Halloween kind of a feel today, so we are going to make it work," Allegheny Window Cleaning President/Owner Edward Matuizek said.

"We just try to put a smile on the kid's face, you know? Hopefully, they get to check us out today while they are visiting or staying here in the hospital to help them get through the day a little better," Hetrick said.

It's safe to say it was mission accomplished.

"It made me really comfortable, and I'd never seen anything like it. I have always wanted to see window cleaners, but I never knew they dressed up like really cool kids," Olivia Robl said.

"The kids were happy. They forgot about what they were here to be seen for. They were bubbly, and laughing and excited, pointing, taking pictures," Johnson said.

The experience showed that you don't need super powers to be someone's hero.
