PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Long-time Super Steeler Hines Ward is out of football, but his photo is on the label of his wine bar’s signature new Riesling.

“That’s what is great about our restaurant. I listen to our customers and try to give them what they want. Now you have so many different selections that for the ladies who love Rieslings, we have that. We can offer that,” he said.

He will introduce it Thursday, Nov. 3rd at a special event at the Hines Ward Vines Wine Bar. For $100, two people can attend — and they will receive a bottle of the wine, plus hot and cold h’or dourves — but that’s not all.

“The proceeds going to the Turkey Fund, I mean that is important to the city of Pittsburgh. I played football for so many years here and turning on the television and watched the turkey fund drive. I wanted to be a part of it and now I get an opportunity to do that,” Ward said.

It’s also an opportunity for Hines to rub elbows with the Pittsburgh faithful.

“I never really got an opportunity, I got that last farewell goodbye on the field so now for people to be able to come out, show their support, you know I’d love to go out there and take the selfies, and sign some autographs,” he said.

The Super Bowl MVP now works for headline news. He knows the Steelers must have Big Ben healthy to make a run this year.

“I have had that knee surgery that he had. I came back in two weeks so I expect Ben to put on a brace. He’ll be out there competing with the rest of the guys, and hopefully they can go down to Baltimore and steal a win,” Ward said.

While this is a key mid-season match-up, he expects the division winner won’t be known for a while.

“That’s the rivalry, that’s the AFC North. It’s gonna be close. It always normally comes down to the last two or three games deciding who is going to win the division but right there you have Pittsburgh and Baltimore and you know Cincinnati close behind,” he said.
