Teen Helps Neighbor Escape Tarentum Fire

TARENTUM (KDKA) - A local teenager is getting well-deserved praise after he came to the aid of a neighbor during a fire Wednesday night.

According to officials at the scene, the fire broke out in the 600 block of Second Avenue in Tarentum around 7 p.m.

A teenager walking nearby saw the flames shooting through the roof and jumped into action.

Nathan Woods said he ran to the home to see if anybody was inside. When he realized that it was empty, he ran to check on the next door neighbor.

"I was walking and I saw smoke and then, I walked over and there's a house on fire. So, we broke the door down, went inside, there was nobody inside. Then, we got the neighbors down, I got the dog out, got him out and then we called the cops," Woods said.

The elderly man and his dog were able to get out safely and there are no reported injuries.

The house that caught fire was vacant, but there is no word on what caused the fire at this time.
