Pirates Name New Coaches For 2017 Season
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates named the coaches for the 2017 season Saturday.
Kimera Bartee, 44, will be the outfield and baserunning/first base coach after spending the last nine seasons as Pittsburgh's minor leagues outfield/baserunning coordinator.
Tom Prince, 52, a former Pittsburgh Pirate, will be the bench coach. Prince spent last season as the minor league field coordinator. He has spent 33 seasons in professional baseball and 23 seasons in the Pirates organization. He has spent the past 13 seasons as a coach or manager in the Pirates minor league system.
Prince made his major league debut with the Pirates in 1987 and played in the big leagues with Pittsburgh from 1987 to 1993 before going on to play with Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Minnesota and Kansas City. He retired as a player after the 2003 campaign.
Joey Cora, 41, will be the infield/third base coach. Cora was a manager for the Altoona Curve in 2016.
Meanwhile, Dave Jauss, who served as the bench coach in 2016, will remain with the major league staff as a coach in 2017.
The Pirates say Brad Fischer was offered a role in player development, but he has not yet accepted the position. Fischer was a major league coach in 2016.
