Teen Set For Trial In Monroeville Mall Shooting

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A teenager accused of wounding three people- including two bystanders - at a Pittsburgh-area mall last year is set to stand trial.

Eighteen-year-old Tarod Thornhill, of Penn Hills, has pleaded not guilty to charges in Allegheny County including attempted homicide and aggravated assault in the February 2015 shootings in Macy's at the Monroeville Mall. That's about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Thornhill was 17 when the shooting occurred and his attorney was unsuccessful in trying to move the case to juvenile court, which would only have jurisdiction until he's 21. Instead, he faces potentially decades in prison if convicted.

Police say Thornhill wounded a married couple who were shopping with the gunfire that also wounded a 20-year-old man with whom Thornhill had an altercation earlier that evening.
