Consumer Reports: Protecting Yourself On Public Wi-Fi
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - In today's mobile universe, working from home often means a home away from home –– using public Wi-Fi.
Consumer Reports says that there are a few things you can do to keep your data safer.
- Make sure your firewall is turned on. It's the first line of defense against viruses and malware.
- Turn off settings like 'network discovery' and file sharing' –– that will make it more difficult for people near you to see your data.
- Set up automatic updates on your devices –– and always install them when they're offered to you.
- Consider using a virtual private network, or VPN.
Every adjustment can make a difference, according to Consumer Reports.
