Customers Say McKeesport Marathon Station Sold Them Bad Gas

MCKEESPORT (KDKA) -- Some claim there is bad gas being sold at a Marathon station in McKeesport, and they have posted about it on Facebook. One woman said she spent $3,000 to repair her car after gassing up at the location.

On Nov. 5, Alayna Rhodes posted: "Don't go to the Marathon in McKeesport by Dravosburg Bridge. Took our Cadillac there, bought premium, come to find out we got bad gas."

She even posted a picture of the gas.

Rhodes is not alone. Taylor Frank had problems and knows of at least six others.

Taylor Frank: We received gas at the Marathon and by the time we got to the house it began to shake and rumble and by the next day it was completely unable to turn on.
Brenda Waters: So you took it to your mechanic?
Taylor Frank: He checked the gas, made sure the gas was in fact contaminated, and it was with water.

She said she has already been reimbursed.

KDKA spoke to the general manager of the Marathon station by phone. He said Allegheny County Weights and Measures tested the gas tanks 10 days ago and found no water. The county confirms no water was found.

Friday, Marathon did another check of the tanks.

"I was sent by Marathon to do a site survey on the station. They said they had a complaint, wanted us to check the findings, my findings were conclusive that there was no water in the tanks here," said U.S. Tank worker Scott Wiltshire.

Marathon said so far they have received four claims and the problem appears to be isolated to this single station in McKeesport.

According to Marathon, the problem is with the supplier to the McKeesport gas station and corporate is working to resolve the issue.
