Indiana Co. Missing Siblings Found Safe, Criminal Investigation Underway

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Two Indiana County siblings have been found safe after being reported missing last week.

The duo had not been seen since Friday, when police say they were abducted from their foster home in Indiana Borough.

On Sunday, Gianna Smith, 15, and her brother, Mitchell Smith, 12, were found safe in Towson, Maryland, near Baltimore. The siblings were found at a Days Inn.

Authorities haven't released many details about how they were found. However, they are believed to be in good condition.

Both children have autism and Gianna is non-verbal.

Police said they were abducted from the home late Thursday night or early Friday morning. Initially, police said they left, or were taken by their biological mother.

At this time, no charges have been filed, but the Indiana Borough police are handling it as a criminal investigation.
