Police: Man Tried To Stab New Castle Woman To Death

NEW CASTLE (KDKA) -- A man and woman are accused of planning to rob and kill a New Castle woman.

Police say the incident took place Sunday around 1 p.m. near the intersection of Ambrosia and Baird roads in Mahoning Township.

Shawn Douglas Pounds, 26, allegedly lured the 32-year-old victim into his car, where he planned on robbing and killing her over "various reasons." His girlfriend, 34-year-old Patricia Sue Yhelka, was also in the vehicle.

Police say Pounds repeatedly stabbed the victim in the neck and hand areas. She was rushed to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where she was scheduled to undergo surgery.

Pounds is charged with attempted homicide, criminal conspiracy to commit homicide, aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit robbery, and simple assault.

Yhelka is charged with criminal conspiracy to commit homicide and criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.

Pounds was placed in the Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond. Yhelka was placed in the Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.
