Fire Damages 3 Homes In Rankin
RANKIN (KDKA) – Three homes were damaged in a quick-moving fire in Rankin Tuesday morning.
According to officials at the scene, the fire started around 9:15 a.m. at a home in the 300 block of 5th Avenue. It quickly spread to two other homes.
Police were first on scene and began knocking on doors to alert residents.
While assisting firefighters, the Rankin police chief was overcome by smoke. He was given oxygen at the scene.
Meanwhile, Marcus Clay, a Department of Public Works employee, saw a woman on the roof of an adjacent home and sprang into action to save her.
"She was stuck on the roof because she didn't have a way down. I told her to jump, she jumped, I caught her, everybody's alright, the baby's safe. So, that's all the matters," Clay said.
According to neighbors, that woman may have lived in the home with five children. Another person inside got the baby out safely.
According to the fire chief, no major injuries were sustained in the fire.
The fire was brought under control just before noon. Firefighters say there did encounter water issues while fighting the blaze.
The cause of the fire has not been determined. The fire marshal is investigating.
Police say there were no serious injuries.
