Police: Broken Glass, Poisoned Bread Left In Yard With 'Intent To Poison Dogs'

LATROBE (KDKA) -- State Police in Westmoreland County are warning pet owners to check their yards before letting their animals outside after broken glass and poisoned bread were left on one man's property.

Investigators say "this does not appear to be an isolated incident."

According to police, it happened at a home on Bell Memorial Church Road in Unity Township sometime between last Friday night and Saturday morning.

Police say someone left the broken glass and bread with what's believed to be poison on it in the pet owner's yard, which is fenced in.

The pet owner, Vincent Leone, found the items before his animals could eat them. He isn't sure why anyone would want to hurt them.

"Everybody loves my dogs," he said. "They're well behaved, it's not like they're chained up and barking and being an annoyance to anyone."

But now investigators say they believe incident was done "with the intent to poison the victim's pet dogs."

"Initially I though it was just me," Leone said. "Then through networking we found out I wasn't the only individual in the area having this issue."
