Steelers Great Rocky Bleier Opens Up About Life And 'The Play'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- One of the staples of the 1970's Steelers that won four Super Bowl titles dropped by "The Fan Morning Show" today for one full hour in the Bowser Nissan Performance Theater; Mr. Rocky Bleier.

Along with being an outstanding NFL running back, Bleier also served in the Vietnam War as after his rookie season in 1968, Bleier left the Steelers after being drafted into the U.S. Army. Bleier was then injured when he was shot in his left leg and had shrapnel from an enemy grenade go into his right leg.

Bleier was told he may never walk again.

He received a postcard from Steelers owner Art Rooney asking Bleier to come back to the team because they needed him and weren't doing so well. So, Bleier overcame the odds and suited up for Pittsburgh from 1970-80, winning four Super Bowls.

Bleier is now part of "The Play" which is an intimate portrait that features Rocky Bleier's multi-faceted life as a Super Bowl champion, wounded warrior, family man and community activist. Written by Gene Collier, "The Play" provides a up-close and personal glimpse of a Pittsburgh icon and a living legend.

"The Play" will be downtown at the O'Reilly Theater from Dec. 20 through Jan. 7, for 14 shows only.

You can hear two segments of Rocky Bleier joining "The Fan Morning Show" below.
