PA Turnpike Tolls To Increase In Early January

HARRISBURG (News Radio 1020 KDKA) - As promised, another increase in Pennsylvania Turnpike tolls will take effect in January.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission announced back in July that tolls would be going up 6 percent for both cash and E-ZPass customers, and that increase will take effect on Sunday, Jan. 8.

Due to lower toll increases for E-ZPass motorists in previous years, however, they will enjoy a discount of 25 to 35 percent.

Turnpike spokesman Carl DeFebo says passenger vehicle tolls will rise from $1.80 to $1.95 for cash, and a $1.16 to $1.23 for E-ZPass customers, for what the Turnpike considers its "most common toll."

"Largely our customers are commuters, especially in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, so that does represent the trip for an average commuter, which is one exit." DeFebo says.

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania's wholesale gasoline tax is also scheduled to increase 8 cents per gallon on Jan. 1.
