PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – You've heard about moms giving birth on the way to the hospital.

But a local mom is getting international attention because the baby she delivered on the way to the hospital was still inside the amniotic sac. Something that is very rare.

In fact, she posted a picture of the baby still inside the sac, and it's gone viral on Instagram.

At first, Raelin Scurry, of Morningside, thought she was feeling false labor, but then: "I woke him [her boyfriend] and was like, 'I think these are real contractions!'"

So she and her boyfriend Ean Vanstory dropped off their daughter and began driving toward Magee-Womens Hospital.

"I was just thinking we've got to get to hospital right now. I was just driving around people and running lights," said Vanstory.

But a few minutes into the trip, Raelin knew they wouldn't make it time.

"I dialed 911, and I was screaming, and the guy was like, 'I need you calm down. I can't understand you!'" said Scurry.

Somewhere along Bigelow Boulevard, the baby came into the world in a very rare way.

Scurry said: "He came out, and I was like, 'Oh my goodness. He's still in his amniotic sac.'"

She was worried because he wasn't moving.

"At first he was very still. So I went like this to his face through the sac, and he pulled his hands and his feet up in the sac. And I was like, "He's okay."

Scurry works in medical research and relaxed at the point, believing the baby was protected in the sac.

"I was very careful not to break that sac," she said.

When they arrived at Magee, doctors and staff moved into action.

"They broke his water right outside the doors," said Scurry. "They said he cried right away."

Scurry and Vanstory have named their son E.J. named after his dad, Ean Jamal Vanstory.

It's been a few weeks now since the birth, and Scurry says that E.J. is on regular oxygen and making progress.

"He's been doing better than they expected him to be doing, with him being born so early. He'll be home before we know it," Scurry said.

She wants to thank all the doctors and staff at Magee for all their great work.

When she posted the pic of the baby in the sac on Instagram she never imagined all the response.

A newspaper in England has even picked up the story, and she's been contacted by a national TV morning show.
