LAS VEGAS (CBS Local/AP) — More than 50 people were killed and at least 200 were injured late Sunday night in a mass shooting during a concert on the Las Vegas Strip. The police have identified the gunman as Stephen Paddock, 64.

Here’s what we know about him so far:

Stephen was a resident of Mesquite, Nevada, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas. According to Mesquite police, the department had no previous contact with him.  Officials did not know how long he had been living in the area.

According to our sister station, CBS DFW, Paddock also had ties to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas.

The suspect’s brother, Eric Paddock, says Stephen was a multimillionaire who made much of his money investing in real estate. Eric Paddock also told reporters Monday in Orlando that his brother was an accountant for many years.

He was not aware of his brother having any recent financial difficulties. He said Stephen was a big spender at casinos and often received free rooms and meals from the casinos.

He described the wealth of his multimillionaire brother as substantial, said it included real estate and that he managed property for relatives.

Eric says his brother never showed signs that he could be violent and owned several guns but never collected firearms.

Eric also described his brother as different than other people: “He was a guy who had money. He went on cruises and gambled.”

He says Stephen did not care about religion or politics.

Stephen was found dead on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Authorities believe he committed suicide.

At least 10 guns were found in Paddock’s room – including several long rifles, according to police.

Stephen was targeting a crowd of 22,000 people attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival below.

Stephen’s home is expected to be searched this morning.
