Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle, Killed On Route 51

JEFFERSON HILLS (KDKA) -- A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed in Jefferson Hills on Friday evening.

The accident took place on a dark stretch of Route 51, not far from the entrance to the Mon Valley Expressway. Jefferson Hills Police said upon their arrival, they found a male victim lying on the travel portion of the northbound lane.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The front windshield was smashed on the small compact vehicle that hit the pedestrian. Several occupants of the car suffered minor injuries.

The preliminary indication is that the man was walking on the highway when he was struck. Why he was walking in the road is not known.

The driver of the car, not immediately identified, is cooperating with investigators.

The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Demar Ernest Boyd.

Allegheny County Police are assisting Jefferson Hills Police in the investigation.
