VANDERGRIFT (KDKA) - An athletics employee in the Kiski Area School District is on leave after being accused of inappropriate communications to students.

Law enforcement sources confirm an investigation into allegations of "inappropriate communications to students" by an individual working in an undisclosed capacity inside the Kiski Area School District athletic department.

"I just don't get it," Ron Howes, who has a child in the school district, said. "Aren't they vetting these people?"

Investigators confirm reports of suspicious activity were brought to a school resource officer's attention sometime earlier this week.

"I have very much concern for my children if that is taking place," Mike McCaskey, another father in the school district, said. "There should be no part of that in the Kiski School District."

Who the person is and their function inside the Kiski athletic department isn't being disclosed. It's been confirmed, however, that the individual in question has been suspended pending a full internal investigation, as well as a police investigation.

As of now, there have been no arrests and charges have not been filed.
