ALIQUIPPA (KDKA) – Two police officers and another person were hospitalized late Thursday night following a crash in Aliquippa.

The accident happened on Brodhead Road in Aliquippa around 9:30 p.m. State police say two Aliquippa police officers had just pulled over a driver suspected of erratic driving when they were hit by another car.

"While on a traffic stop they were rear-ended by a suspected DUI driver," Corporal James Medvit of the Pennsylvania State Police in Beaver said.

"I saw the police had a car pulled over and then I heard, 'boom' and I looked out the window and there was a red car behind the police car," said Michael Rock, who lives on Brodhead Road. He added, "…and then there were a whole bunch of police cars. The state police came, two ambulances came."

Police say both officers and the suspected DUI driver were taken to the hospital.

The officers have since been released. Police didn't provide an update on the suspect's condition.

"I saw the guy that they carried out of the car and he kind of fell down behind the car," Rock said. "He was going pretty fast because it was pretty loud."

Rock said drivers often speed through the stretch of Brodhead Road, near the Wendy's fast food restaurant.

"It's only 25 (miles per hour) and people fly down this road, so I'm glad police pulled somebody over, I'm sorry that they got hurt," Rock said.

State police don't believe the weather was a factor in the crash. Charges against the suspected DUI driver are pending.
