Judge Won't Delay Release Of 800-Page Report On Pa. Catholic Church Sex-Abuse Allegations

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP/KDKA) - A judge is refusing to delay the publication of a state grand jury report into allegations of child sexual abuse, failing to report it and obstruction of justice within six of Pennsylvania's Roman Catholic dioceses.
Judge Norman Krumenacker's 11-page decision signed Tuesday said people who he didn't identify had argued that hearings in which they could challenge parts of the grand jury report were required to protect their reputations before they are named in it.
But Krumenacker says such hearings have never been allowed.
Attorney General Josh Shapiro's office had argued that people named in the report were provided an opportunity to respond to critical parts of the report.
Shapiro's office says it expects to release the report later this month, unless one of the bishops or dioceses tries to delay it.
The 800-page report includes both the Pittsburgh and Greensburg dioceses.
Any appeal would now have to go to the state Supreme Court.
