School Districts Planning Early Dismissals Due To Scorching Temperatures, High Humidity

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The hot temperatures and high humidity in the forecast over the next few days have prompted several school districts to plan for early dismissals.

Allegheny County

Bishop Canevin High School

Bishop Canevin High School students will be dismissed at 12:25 p.m. on Tuesday. Students who are unable to leave at 12:25 p.m. may remain in the air-conditioned cafeteria until their ride or bus arrives.

East Allegheny School District

On Tuesday, students in grades 7 - 12 will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m. Students in grades K-6 will operate on a regular schedule.

Elizabeth Forward School District

On Tuesday, elementary school students will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m., middle school students will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m. and high school students will be dismissed at noon.

Penn Hills School District

Linton Middle School students will be let out at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Pittsburgh Public Schools

The Pittsburgh Public School District will dismiss students two hours early on Tuesday. Click here for the dismissal schedule.

Propel Hazelwood

There will be a two hour early dismissal Tuesday.

Seton LaSalle Catholic High School

Seton LaSalle will be operating on a 2-hour early dismissal schedule for Tuesday.

Shaler School District

On Tuesday, high school students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m., middle school students will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m., elementary school students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. and primary school students will be dismissed at 1 p.m.

Head coaches will decide whether or not to cancel middle and high school athletic practices and games.

Sto Rox School District

The Junior/Senior High School will have a 2-hour early dismissal. Primary and Upper Elementary will be released at their regularly scheduled times.

Universal Academy of Pittsburgh

The Universal Academy of Pittsburgh will dismiss students at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Armstrong County

Leechburg Area School District

The Leechburg Area School District will have a 2-hour early dismissal Tuesday and Wednesday.

Butler County

Butler Area School District

The Butler Area School District is dismissing students two hours early Tuesday out of the concern that temperatures inside some of their buildings may climb higher than the temperature outside.

The early dismissal applies to all schools in the district. Lunch will be served at every school before dismissal.

Fayette County

Chestnut Ridge Christian Academy

Chestnut Ridge Christian Academy in Uniontown will dismiss students at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Laurel Highlands School District

Officials with the Laurel Highlands School District in Uniontown say they will be dismissing students early on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Over those two days, the middle school will let out at noon, the elementary school at 12:45 p.m., and the high school at 1:45 p.m.

Greene County

Central Greene School District

The Central Greene School District will operate on a 2-hour early dismissal Tuesday.

Indiana County

Indiana Area School District

An early dismissal will be in effect for elementary schools only on Tuesday. Students will be dismissed at 1 p.m.

Washington County

Fort Cherry School District

The Fort Cherry School District will dismiss elementary school students at 12:45 p.m. and high school students at noon on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Westmoreland County

Greensburg Salem School District

The Greensburg Salem School District will have early dismissals Tuesday and Wednesday. The secondary school will be dismissed at noon and the elementary school will be dismissed at 1 p.m.

Kiski Area School District

The Kiski Area School District will have a 2-hour early dismissal Tuesday.

Mount Pleasant Area School District

The Mount Pleasant Area School District has issued a letter to parents announcing early dismissals on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for all elementary school students.

According to the letter, the elementary schools have limited air conditioning, and both the Norvelt and Ramsay schools have second-floor classrooms.

The students will be dismissed all three days at 1 p.m.

Middle school students will be released at 12:30 p.m. Elementary school students will be released at 1:30 p.m. High school students will be released at the normal time of 2:25 p.m.
