PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating a crash involving a school bus and a pickup truck in Downtown Pittsburgh.

According to police, the crash happened at the intersection of 11th and Smallman streets around 7 a.m.

"I never thought I was gonna be in something like that because I always felt safe, but the world isn't really what it seems," 13-year-old Tyirra Morton said.

Spoken from the mouths of babes, Morton was on the bus. She and six other students were being transported to Pittsburgh Clayton Academy on the North Side when the crash happened right at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Looking at the angle where the bus came to rest, it's hard to believe no one was injured, not the drivers nor the students.

The bus driver was able to maneuver his vehicle right between two utility poles when he crashed with a pick-up truck. It happened quickly, says David Kline, the owner of the bus company, Allegheny Transportation Services.

"The bus driver was traveling through Smallman Street, and he was traveling through a green light and the other car came from the other side, trying to beat the light and drove right in front of them," Kline said.

Robert Noel was an eyewitness; he just happened to be walking by.

"After they collided, debris went everywhere. The bus went between two poles and up into the [bushes]. As soon as it happened, the back door of the bus opened, kids came out, some of the kids were crying," Noel said.

Everyone was checked out by paramedics at the scene. The owner of the bus company had the police report in his hand when he spoke to KDKA-TV News.

"We asked the police, and the police said they watched the cameras and [the bus driver] was not cited for speeding. He was going according to traffic for the morning, so he did everything possibly that he could," Kline said.

It was an accident where everyone got to walk away.
