Truck Loses Control Crashes Into Crescent Twp. Apartment Building

CRESCENT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Officials don't know how the driver of a truck ended up plowing into several parked cars and an apartment building along McGovern Boulevard in Crescent Township.

"I thought the place was going to blow up. I grabbed my stuff to get out," said Lisa Lange.

Lange said she was scared for her life when she stuck her head out of her second floor apartment and smelled natural gas. Before that, she heard a loud crash and soon realized the truck in the front of her building had crashed into the gas meter.

Peoples Gas and Duquesne Light responded to shut the utilities off.

"It went into the guy's apartment underneath. Upstairs it shook a little bit when it happened. Seemed to be structurally okay right now," said Lange.

Officials said the crash happened just after 6 a.m. Monday. The truck driveri is okay.

"He left a local company about a half-mile down the road and lost control somehow," said Crescent Township Assistant Fire Chief Denny Lewis.

Four people live inside the apartment building. The man who lives on the first floor was injured. He was taken to Sewickley Valley Hospital to get checked out.

"The only injury that occurred is a resident of one apartment. He heard a bang and jumped out of bed and hurt his back," said Lewis.

Lange lives on the second floor with her husband David Porter. Porter said he spoke to the driver of the truck after the crash.

"One mirror didn't have a defroster so he went to clean it off and the next thing you know he lost control of the vehicle and went into one of pickup trucks. It ended up into the side of building," said Porter.

Porter said his pickup truck, white car and trailer were damaged.

"I was a little mad. That was my first reaction. My trailer was gone. It's a good thing I didn't have my work truck there. He also took out my car too," said Porter.

"The main thing is everybody is safe. The main thing is that it is all replaceable," said Lange.
