Police said an 18-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen around 6 p.m. Sunday inside the home. Johnson said her daughter was out in the yard and ran down to help.

Johnson said her daughter witnessed the boyfriend carry the woman and sit her down in the middle of the street.

"She was pretty upset when she came back up. She just ran back up and said she accidentally got shot," said Johnson. "She was alert, but not very alert so they called 911. The police came. The paramedics came."

Johnson said the couple has lived at the home for many years.

"He carries a gun because they've had some incidents over there. So, he's been carrying a gun with him. I've seen it in his pants," Johnson said.

Johnson said the boyfriend told her daughter his girlfriend pulled the gun out of his pants and that's when it accidentally went off, just once. Police questioned the man, but no charges are being filed. They are calling this shooting an accident.

The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery and is currently listed in critical condition. She is expected to survive.
