Stan Lee, Marvel Comics Co-Creator, Dies At 95

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- A family attorney says Marvel giant Stan Lee, the architect of the contemporary comic book, has died at age 95.
Lee was declared dead Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to Kirk Schenck, an attorney for Lee's daughter, J.C. Lee.
In the past, he has been a guest at Pittsburgh comics conventions. In 2012, Lee stopped by for the 20th annual Pittsburgh Comicon, which has since been renamed Steel City Con. It was Lee's second appearance at Pittsburgh Comicon in three years.
Earlier this year, Lee had to cancel an appearance at the Wizard World Cleveland comic convention "due to unforeseen circumstances."
As the top writer at Marvel Comics and later as its publisher, he revived the industry in the 1960s by offering the costumes and action craved by younger readers while insisting on sophisticated plots, college-level dialogue, satire, science fiction, even philosophy.
Spider-Man, the Hulk and X-Men were among the Lee creations that went on to become stars of blockbuster films.
Pittsburgh native Joe Manganiello, who started his acting career playing Flash Thompson in the 2002 movie "Spider-Man," was among those mourning, saying, "You will be missed my friend."

Many celebrities who had worked with Lee or on a Marvel movie or TV show took to Twitter after the news broke to express their condolences.
There will never be another Stan Lee. For decades he provided both young and old with adventure, escape, comfort, confidence, inspiration, strength, friendship and joy. He exuded love and kindness and will leave an indelible mark on so, so, so many lives. Excelsior!!

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the 2012 Marvel movie "The Avengers" did some secondary filming in the Butler area.
