PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's been as cold as advertised.

Here's the good news. The coldest weather we have seen in some time here locally is officially lifting and moving to the north today and overnight.

While we will remain colder than average, our temperatures will be noticeably warmer.

As that warmer air arrives, we are going to see snow showers scatter across the area. These snow showers will begin in the very early morning hours of Friday and lighten up by lunch time.

Pittsburgh will likely see an inch or less accumulate, while counties south of I-70 will see 1 inch to 3 inches possible with up to 4 inches in the ridges.

While these are not big numbers, this snow will be around for the morning commute, and it will stick to untreated surfaces easily, because of the recent frigid temperatures.

A major warm-up is in the works, as we start the new week. Look for a streak of days with highs touching into the 50s.

There's actually a chance at hitting the 60s by Monday! Won't that feel nice?

It wasn't just cold in Pittsburgh on Thursday, new records were set in Wheeling, West Virginia, and Zanesville, Ohio, on Wednesday along with DuBois tying their old record of minus-10 degrees. Thursday morning saw record low temperatures in Pittsburgh, Dubois and New Philadelphia.

DuBois was one of the colder places both Wednesday and today, falling to minus-10 degrees.

In Clarion County, Cooksburg fell to a stout minus-16 degrees.

Other places that have seen double digits this morning include the city of Clarion in Clarion County and Portersville in Butler County. The Franklin Airport in Venango County, along with several places in Mercer County, also fell to minus-10 or below this morning.
