Woman Killed In Greensburg Police-Involved Shooting Identified

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP/KDKA) - The woman killed during a police-involved shooting in Greensburg on Wednesday has been identified.
Family members confirm to KDKA's Ross Guidotti that the woman's name is Nina Adams.
"It's kind of shocking. Like, you know, I wish I'd done something a long time ago," Frank Adams, the victim's uncle, said.
According to Frank, Nina, 47, was suffering from mental health issues and refused help from family.
"She was a college graduate, you mean what I mean. She was really smart. Somewhere along the line she had a mental breakdown," Frank said. "She was diagnosed with schizophrenia."
Frank says his niece cut herself off from the rest of the family years ago, her sickness fueling hostility for relatives even when they'd meet in public.
"She saw me, and before I could see her and start waving, she sped up like she was going to hit me," he said.
According to family members, the inside of Nina's home showed signs of what was going on inside her head.
"She has cameras set up through the whole house. Apparently she had a security system for the basement, the backyard, everywhere. She had a knife in every corner of every room," Frank said.
The shooting in Greensburg started shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday when Adams fired shots at a car not far from her home. She then walked back home, and police soon arrived on scene.
Authorities say Adams, armed with a handgun, walked onto her porch. One officer fired a bean bag at her in an unsuccessful bid to disable her, and another officer soon shot her.
Adams was taken to a hospital but died there a short time later.
Frank says his niece's death should not be used to make any political statements.
He wants the officers involved to know the family holds no animosity towards them.
"The family, we don't have any ill will against you. You did your job. This wasn't a racial issue. She was walking down the street shooting and she had a gun. He did his job," Frank said.
The officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in police-involved shootings.
