Lawsuit Alleges Fayette Co. Furniture Retailer Failed To Deliver Merchandise, Issue Refunds

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- Attorney General Josh Shapiro has filed a lawsuit against a Fayette County furniture retailer.
The lawsuit alleges Mundel's Furniture in Uniontown failed to deliver merchandise and issue refunds in a timely fashion.
The store, and one-time furniture and mattress outlet, has been in operation since the '50s. Their trademark brick building on Connellsville Street is a popular choice for those looking to furnish their homes.
The state Attorney General's office in a 34-page lawsuit claims, however, the company engaged in unfair and deceptive acts toward customers.
One instance cited a 64-year-old customer whose $2,300 furniture order never arrived. That customer, after allegedly receiving promises and excuses, finally got a refund 18 months after they put money down.
Another customer put $100 down on a mattress for delivery. The mattress never arrived, and the consumer alleges they never got their deposit returned.
The filing also alleges the company failed to make timely deliveries, offering customers items from off the showroom floor instead.
Since 2017, 12 consumers have filed complaints with the Bureau of Consumer Protections stating they had not received either their furniture or a refund. Each payment to the defendants ranged from $100 to $3,389. The furniture not delivered to those 12 consumers was worth more than $11,000.
Shapiro's office is asking that Randolph Mundel formally change its method of business and pay $1,000 for each violation of the law and $3,000 for each violation involving a victim 60 years of age or older.
KDKA reached out to the company for their take on the lawsuit and are awaiting a reply.
