Pittsburgh Police Commemorate 11 Year Anniversary Of Fallen Officer Deaths

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh's Zone 5 Police Station was beaming with flashing red, white and blue lights in memoriam, Saturday morning.

Saturday, April 4, marked the 11-year-anniversary of fallen Pittsburgh Bureau of Police officers Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Sciullo, who were gunned down and killed while responding to a domestic incident back in 2009.

On Saturday, a private memorial ceremony was held for the three fallen heroes, outside Zone 5. Officers and loved ones placed blue flowers by a memorial, erected in their honor.

"It's been 11 years but it seems like it happened just yesterday," said Sue Sciullo, Officer Paul Sciullo's Mother.

Sue Sciullo, who attended the ceremony along with her husband Max, told KDKA, every year, there is a service held at St. Maria Goretti Church in Bloomfield, followed by a luncheon, remembering the life of the three valorous men. But due to recent restrictions on gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic, that service could no longer be.

Since hugs and words of comfort couldn't be exchanged in person, the family of Officer Paul Sciullo found another way to recognize the three fallen officers.

Close family members organized a parade that rolled passed the Sciullo family's Bloomfield home.

Mr. and Mrs. Sciullo were totally shocked when they saw and heard over a dozen police cruisers and vehicles filled with loved ones, shouting "I love you" and holding signs of positivity from their windows.

"They are wonderful our family and our friends and the police and the fire department and EMS we could not be more thankful to them they are all wonderful. God bless all of them," said Sue.

Max Sciullo, Officer Paul Sciullo's Father told KDKA "I always say that we lost a son but we gained a family in law enforcement and EMS."
