Community Outreach Delivers Food To Senior Citizens

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Last May with the help of 21 volunteers and the Ross Township Police Department, North Hills Community Outreach delivered 161 boxes of food to the homes of vulnerable senior citizens in North Allegheny County. These seniors have been involved with NHCO through our In Service of Seniors Program, Free Ride for Seniors Program, or have been food pantry clients.

"Thank you very much. I really appreciate this so much. Good things in there. I'm sure everybody in our building appreciates it also," a senior in Shaler Township said after receiving a box.

An anonymous donor paid for the food boxes that were supplied by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. They were dropped off at our Allison Park office where volunteers loaded their cars and delivered the goods.

"I just felt it was an inner need for me to come out and do this. If we can't help each other, what good are we around here? What hope do we have to ever getting back to normal again and being good neighbors? That's why I'm here," a volunteer remarked.

NHCO is committed to providing access to food to everyone who needs it during this time, and has been making these deliveries every month since May with the help of the Shaler and Ross Police Departments.
